UK/Midlands-based shoegaze/ dreampop quartet Superego just released their single “Loose” on 25th February 2019.
Superego consists of bandmembers Cam Potts (frontguy & vocalist), Tom Richards, Luke Joseph Harley and Samuel Beckingham, who have been touring with the likes of Black Honey as well as supporting acts such as The Big Moon, Pale Waves, and Our Girl. Their previous single “Sleep” received critical acclaim from a numbers of musicblogs and zines.
The single “Loose” starts with a grungy, brooding verse with post-punk traces creating a moment of suspense: at this point the chorus could go anywhere and often makes or breaks the song. When at 0:55 the chorus drops, I am relieved because it’s gorgeous and does justice to the overall composition! A contemporary jangly dreampop a la DIIV, Hazel English etc. is seamlessly blended with a rougher 90’s shoegaze sound, and the crooning reverb-drenched vocals of frontman Cam Potts remind me a lot of those of Adorable‘s Pete Fijalkowski which is never a bad thing! Dreamy harmonies and psychey-fuzz are added for effect to round things off nicely. Recommended!
